COBB COUNTY ADULT DETENTION CENTER
LOCKDOWNS, WATER CONTAMINATION AND NEGLECT
In October of 2019, the Cobb County Adult Detention Center was placed on a month-long lockdown, confining people to cells for over 23 hours per day.
In December, reports of water contamination were reported in the facility. It took several days for the Sheriff’s Department to respond.
In 2019, numerous reports of people being denied or unduly limited access to legal counsel and family visitation at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
It is well reported that the Cobb County Adult Detention Center suffers from staffing shortages. Instead of investing in his staffing needs, Sheriff Neil Warren places those in his custody under brutal conditions. Most people held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center have not been convicted of a crime, and are either awaiting trial in a Cobb County Court, or transportation to another agency. It is not the Sheriff’s role to pass judgement and punishment on people that have not been convicted of any crime, and we firmly believe that no one should die in jail.
